Infections, hospitalisations and deaths fall: this is the only real answer to the no vax movement

The risk of Sars-CoV-2 infection, hospitalisation and death in vaccinated people has fallen.

These are the main results obtained at the national level by the joint analysis of the national registry of vaccines and integrated surveillance Covid-19 contained in the report, by the Working Group of the National Institute of Health and the Ministry of Health, ‘Covid-19 Vaccine Surveillance’ in collaboration with the regional referents of the integrated surveillance Covid-19 and with the regional referents of the national registry of vaccines.

The report presents data from 27 December 2020 (the start of the vaccination campaign in Italy) to 3 May 2021, relating to 13.7 million people vaccinated: infections, hospitalisations and deaths have fallen

The joint analysis showed that the risk of Sars-CoV-2 infection, hospitalisation and death progressively decreases after the first two weeks after inoculation.

As of 35 days after the start of the vaccination cycle, there is an 80% reduction in infections, 90% reduction in hospitalisations and 95% reduction in deaths; these effects are similar in men and women and in people of different age groups.

The data show that 95% of those who received the Comirnaty (Pfizer) or Moderna vaccine completed the vaccination cycle, receiving two doses at the times indicated by the vaccination calendar, while for the AstraZeneca vaccine none of the people included in the study had received the full cycle.

“These data – comments Iss President Silvio Brusaferro – confirm the effectiveness of vaccinations and of the vaccination campaign, and the need to reach high coverage rates in the whole population soon in order to get out of the emergency thanks to this fundamental tool”.
