Health Secretary confirms latest Government position on junior doctor contract

Health Secretary confirms Government will pause introduction of junior doctor contract for 5 days if BMA agrees to negotiate on outstanding issues.

Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt said:

“This is a significant show of good faith by the Government in order to break the deadlock. We now need the BMA to agree to negotiate on Saturday pay, the biggest area of difference between us, in order for the talks to proceed next week.”

Jeremy Hunt has written to Professor Dame Sue Bailey in response to the Academy of Royal Colleges’ call for a five-day negotiating period.
