Io Non Rischio: Prevention in Emilia-Romagna and Italy

Awareness-raising on natural risks: the importance of education and initiatives in the squares between Piacenza and Rimini

The weekend of 14 and 15 October saw the ‘Io Non Rischio‘ (I Do Not Risk) campaign return to Emilia-Romagna, and throughout Italy. This national initiative, promoted by the National Civil Protection Department together with various institutions and the world of scientific research, aims to spread awareness and a culture of prevention against risks such as earthquakes, tidal waves and floods.

A Significant Presence in Emilia-Romagna

In Emilia-Romagna, 72 volunteer associations have joined the initiative, present in 50 physical squares between Piacenza and Rimini. However, innovation does not stop at the physical world: many associations have expanded their online reach, launching ‘digital squares’ through platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. This edition saw the energy and passion of more than 500 volunteers, specifically trained to manage and enliven both the physical squares, identified by the traditional yellow gazebos, and the digital ones.

A National Impact

On a national level, the ‘Io Non Rischio’ campaign had a significant impact, involving thousands of volunteers from every region of Italy. With more than 750 participating squares, from the far north to the southernmost islands, the campaign was enriched this year with new dissemination materials. The comic book ‘L’attimo decisivo’ (The decisive moment) was distributed in all secondary schools in Italy, demonstrating a commitment to raising awareness among the younger generations. Not to mention the videos available, translated into sign language, to ensure accessibility for all.

Exciting Initiatives in Emilia-Romagna

Emilia-Romagna, with its deep involvement, presented a series of exciting events. From urban treks to games for children and meetings with experts, the squares of Emilia-Romagna were full of informative activities. Saturday morning, in particular, saw a live broadcast on the Facebook channel of the Agency for Territorial Security and Civil Protection, enriched by the words of the Region’s Vice-President, Irene Priolo, and the Agency’s Director, Rita Nicolini.

The Squares Involved

To give an idea of the vast scale of the event in Emilia-Romagna, some of the squares involved included places such as Bologna, Ferrara, Modena and Parma, to name but a few. Each square offered specific activities and events, demonstrating the region’s commitment to education and prevention.

The ‘Io Non Rischio’ campaign once again demonstrated the importance of prevention and education in managing natural disasters. Thanks to the combined efforts of volunteers, institutions and citizens, Italy is working to build a safer and more prepared future for all.
