When hoax calls compromise real emergencies

On April, East Midlands ambulance service has released a recording of a telephone conversation in which a child called 999, affirming that a young girl had been run over by a car and had died.

So, an ambulance which was dispatched for another emergency was diverted, other medical vehicles, including one by air, were sent to the scene to treat the patient, but when they arrived there was no-one at the address and it became clear the call had been a hoax.

To make matters worse, in the last month, East Midlands ambulance service received three hoax calls and dispatchers refer that is really annoying and discouraging for them and for medical team.
