Vaccine, data in Italy: after six months protection drops by 24 points

Vaccine protection: the last 30 days in Italy have seen a higher incidence of Covid cases diagnosed in the unvaccinated population

Six months after the completion of the vaccination cycle, the Italian National Institute of Health (ISS) observes “a strong decrease in vaccine effectiveness in preventing diagnoses in all age groups”.

“In general, over the whole population, the vaccine efficacy goes from 79% in those vaccinated with a full cycle within six months compared to the unvaccinated, to 55% in those vaccinated with a full cycle for more than six months compared to the unvaccinated”.

Covid vaccine protection: vaccine efficacy in preventing severe disease remains high

“In the case of severe disease, the difference between those vaccinated for more than six months and those vaccinated for less than six months is smaller.

There is, in fact, a decrease in vaccine effectiveness of about 13 percentage points, as the effectiveness for those vaccinated with a full cycle for less than six months is 95%, while it is 82% for those vaccinated with a full cycle for more than six months, compared to unvaccinated,” concludes the Iss report.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF VACCINE PROTECTION: 50 THOUSAND CASES AMONG THE UNVACCINATED, ONLY 537 FOR THOSE WHO HAVE HAD A THIRD DOSE

“In the last 30 days, 50,564 cases (39.9%) were reported among the unvaccinated, 3,980 cases (3.1%) among those vaccinated with an incomplete cycle, 60,407 cases (47.7%) among those vaccinated with a complete cycle within six months, 11,215 (8.9%) among those vaccinated with a complete cycle for more than six months and 537 cases (0.4%) among those vaccinated with a complete cycle with an additional dose/booster.

51% of hospitalisations, 64% of admissions to intensive care and 45.3% of deaths occurred among those who did not receive any dose of vaccine”.

This is what we read in the latest report of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (Iss).

The number of hospitalisations “among the unvaccinated is about seven times higher than among those vaccinated with a full cycle of less than six months (30 hospitalisations per 100,000) and six times higher than among those vaccinated with a full cycle of more than six months (37 hospitalisations per 100,000)”.

Analysing the number of admissions to intensive care and deaths in the over 80, the Iss notes instead “that the rate of admissions to intensive care of the unvaccinated (13 admissions to intensive care per 100,000) is about seven times higher than that of vaccinated with a full cycle for less than six months (1.8 admissions to intensive care per 100. 000) and for more than six months (1.9 ICU admissions per 100,000), while, in the period 24/09/2021 – 24/10/2021, the death rate in the unvaccinated (65 per 100,000) is about nine times higher than in those vaccinated with a full cycle within six months (7 per 100,000) and six times higher than in those vaccinated with a full cycle for more than six months (11 per 100,000)”.
