Russia: UNHCR will support the Russian Red Cross in helping internally displaced people in Donbass. The Russian Red Cross (RKK), together with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), will provide assistance to internally displaced persons in Donbass

“The many years of cooperation with UNHCR are of great value to the Russian Red Cross.
It is particularly important now, given the ongoing difficult humanitarian situation with refugees in Donbass.
We are grateful for the additional assistance our colleagues are ready to provide. Together, we will be able to help IDPs more effectively, provide them with food and basic necessities and provide psychosocial support to those in need”, said Pavel Savchuk .
UNHCR: agreement provides for assistance to displaced persons from Donbass in temporary reception centres in the Russian regions of Kursk, Vladimir, Volgograd and Lipetsk
“In these difficult times, solidarity, generosity and compassion for people leaving their homes and leaving family members are crucial and needed more than ever.
It is our duty as United Nations refugee agencies to support our partners who are at the forefront of the humanitarian response to this crisis, such as the Russian Red Cross, and strengthen their capacity to provide assistance on the ground,” said Karim Atassi.
As part of the cooperation, the purchase and delivery of hygiene products, household appliances, food vouchers and pharmaceutical products will be carried out in late March – early April 2022.
Between April and November, two RKK monitoring missions will be sent to each region to monitor the progress of the project.
There will also be capacity building of RKK regional offices in the areas of work with migrants and psychosocial support (PSP).
To do this, the Russian Red Cross is organising a series of training courses to improve the skills of volunteers and staff in the field of psychosocial support and to teach the algorithm for action in crisis situations.
In total, 66 regional branches of the Russian Red Cross are involved in refugee assistance.
About 170 RKK specialists provide psychosocial support in temporary reception centres.
In 47 regions, based on the regional branches of the Russian Red Cross, there are 121 humanitarian aid reception points.
In addition, there are 102 humanitarian aid distribution points in RKK branches, which also process private applications and meet the needs of IDPs not living in TAPs.
The partnership agreement with the RKK is part of UNHCR’s efforts to respond to the acute humanitarian crisis in Donbass
Given the scale of the displacement, UNHCR in Russia has also mobilized other NGO partners to provide legal, advisory and humanitarian assistance to the displaced persons.
In order to provide comprehensive support to those who arrived on the territory of the Russian Federation, a #MYVMESTE volunteer office was established.
Assistance to IDPs is carried out by volunteers from the #MYVMESTE volunteer office, volunteer resource centres, All-Russian Student Rescue Corps, ONF Youth, representatives of the Russian Red Cross, RNO, Medical Volunteers and other voluntary associations.
The #MYVMESTE volunteer corps works around the clock and coordinates the collection and distribution of humanitarian aid, including from other regions, meeting Donbass refugees, organising living conditions and psychological support.
