The 17 international organizations of MdM, in fact, are committed to pursuing the common objectives of providing health care, witnessing and promoting social change.
The five areas of intervention of Médecins du Monde (MdM):
MdM structures its actions in five main areas of intervention : support to victims of crises and conflicts, promotion of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SSR), harm reduction and fight against HIV, care of migrant and displaced populations and, finally, reduction of environmental impact on health.
Medici del Mondo (MdM) Italia joins Emergency Expo:
Medici del Mondo Italia was founded in 1993, when a group of doctors from Milan, supported by Médecins du Monde France, formed an association to promote emergency intervention during the crisis in the former Yugoslavia.
Until 2004, they also carried out social inclusion projects in Milan, as well as international projects, especially in Ecuador.
Then, in 2004, they stopped their activities.
Years later, in response to the growing number of migrants trying to reach Europe since 2014, MdM’s Italy mission was born on 15 October 2015, with the contribution of Médecins du Monde France and Medicos del Mundo España.
The Italy mission was created at the end of 2015 in response to the migration crisis affecting Europe and Italy.
As of 2018, a new programme with a focus on gender-based violence and sexual and reproductive health is being developed in three regions: Calabria, Lazio and eastern Sicily.
Finally, at the beginning of 2020, with the outbreak of the pandemic, the Italian mission will contribute immediately in its areas of intervention in preventing and mitigating the effects of Covid-19 on the most vulnerable populations.
