What does the result of the Alpha-1 acid glycoprotein test mean?

An Alpha-1 acid glycoprotein level above the reference range indicates a possible infection, tissue necrosis or neoplasm.

An Alpha-1 acid glycoprotein level below the reference range indicates possible liver failure or nutritional deficiency.

How is the Alpha-1 acid glycoprotein blood test performed?

The test is performed by taking venous blood from the arm.

Are there any preparation rules?

The patient must be fasting eight hours before the test.

The patient must remain in an upright position for at least 30 minutes before the test (avoid sitting or lying down).
