What is calcemia?

The term calcium indicates the levels of calcium in the blood. Circulating calcium is largely bound to plasma proteins and only a small part is present in free form

Most of the calcium is stored in the bones.

Why measure blood calcemia?

The test measures the total calcium levels in the circulation.

It is a routine examination but can also be prescribed to monitor certain pathologies such as kidney disease, parathyroid pathology or in the presence of symptoms that signal an altered calcium metabolism.

Calcemia, are there rules of preparation?

The sampling is usually performed in the morning and on an empty stomach.

Is blood calcium testing dangerous or painful?

The exam is neither dangerous nor painful.

The patient can feel the sting as the needle enters the arm.
