Ukraine emergency, the drama of a mother and two children in the words of Porto Emergenza volunteers

Porto Emergenza is an association of volunteers of the ANPAS Lombardia network who are doing their best to help people affected by the war in Ukraine

The first mission of Porto Emergenza: rescuing a mother with two children who escaped from a bunker in Kiev

They came back to Mantova with the most precious “booty” that a war scenario can offer: the salvation of a mother and her children.

The mother, says Denise from Porto Emergenza, “was fleeing from Kiev because the bombing had reached their house too and, after spending 12 days in the bunker, they had run out of basic necessities as well as losing everything; the husband and father of the children was forced to stay and fight”.

“The lady,” Denise continues in her story, “has relatives a few kilometres from our headquarters.

Thanks to the fundamental collaboration of the NGO Intersos, which is present in Ukraine and in all the neighbouring countries to give medical and health support and various kinds of aid (they organise trips like ours to secure people who have support elsewhere or at least take them to their other camps where they will then be helped to reach other countries) to the population affected by the war, we were able to take them to the border with Poland and there 2 volunteers of Porto Emergenza loaded them on the minibus towards Italy”.

The first mission of Porto Emergenza ends with a fantastic result

A trip from Rzeszow, in Poland, to the safer Mantova, where the two children will be able to live without the fear of a carpet bombing.

A great result, of which Porto Emergenza can rightly be proud.
