Invasion of Ukraine, from today the Italian Red Cross humanitarian aid hub in Romania is operative

Starting from today in Suceava (Romania) the logistic hub of 1000 square meters built by the Italian Red Cross for the storage of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, consisting of 5 hangars of 200 square meters each in which 600 pallets of humanitarian aid can be stored (about 20 trucks fully loaded)

Hub in Romania strategic to deliver humanitarian aid to Ukraine

“The CRI’s Suceava hub – underlines Francesco Rocca, President of the Italian Red Cross and International Federation (IFRC) – was built in record time, in just a few weeks, and is the result of collaboration between the Italian Red Cross and the Romanian Red Cross, which will contribute to its management.

The structure is located a few kilometres from the border with Ukraine (about 50 km) and is therefore a strategic access point that will allow us to optimise the response to the needs of the population affected by the conflict and support the work of the Ukrainian Red Cross.

Not only will aid from the Italian Red Cross be collected and stored in Suceava, but from all the National Societies that wish to use it.

This is yet another example that the strength of the International Movement lies in the collaboration between Sisters.

Sister Red Crosses are working together in Romania, and the Hub represents a change of step:

“It is a change of pace this new structure, by virtue of its location – underlines Ignazio Schintu, Operations, Emergencies and Relief Director of the Italian Red Cross.

We have been working since the first hours to deliver aid, thanks to the new hub we will be even more effective”.

Present at yesterday’s inauguration in Suceava were Alessandro Brunialti, National Technical Delegate for Emergencies of the Italian Red Cross, representing the National President; Marius Ion, head of logistics of the Romanian Red Cross; the head of ICRC operations in Romania, Youness Rahoui; the Prefect of Suceava, Alexandru Moldovan.
