Covid in Italy: 'More than 100 doctors infected every day'.

Covid in Italy: more than a hundred infected white coats are asking for support from Enpam, the social security body for doctors and dentists, every day

This is the result of the flood of requests for the subsidy dedicated to Covid-positive doctors and dentists in Italy, which the social security institution is currently receiving

Economic support ranging from €600 to €5,000, depending on the seriousness of the illness, reserved exclusively for doctors and dentists who work on a freelance basis.

In January, the boom in the number of applications received by the Foundation’s offices mirrors the surge in the number of infections among healthcare workers: over 3,000 applications in the first 27 days of the month.

Doctors infected by Covid in Italy: over a hundred a day

The number of requests for Covid is more than ten times higher than the 245 recorded between the end of November and the end of December, and has grown exponentially since last November, when 145 Enpam members applied for the subsidy.

The measure is aimed at doctors and dentists contributing to Quota B, which covers freelance income, and it is therefore reasonable to estimate that every day the number of white-collar workers infected by Covid-19 in Italy is even more serious.

In the midst of the upward race of the infection curve, driven by the Omicron variant, the Enpam subsidy for positives confirms itself as a concrete support for doctors and dentists forced by Covid to stay away from work.

The subsidy is tax-free and is granted regardless of income.

But its final amount is proportional to the contribution rate chosen and the seriousness of the illness: €600 in case of contagion, €3,000 if there is hospitalisation and €5,000 for those who end up in intensive care.

If the condition worsens during the course of the illness, it is possible to access the next level of the benefit.

If the illness lasts more than thirty days, from the thirty-first day the ordinary Enpam coverage for temporary inability is activated.
